2009 Cape Town Sports Academy a Great Success!

The 2009 children’s sports academy was a resounding success. A team of volunteers from Northern Ireland ran a hockey and soccer academy for 60 children in the Townships of Cape Town. The programme runs every August, and is organised for the Amy Biehl Foundation Trust, which provides after school activities for up to 1500 children every week. The children all live in the Townships around Cape Town.
Eric Jenkinson, Coordinator and Team Leader of the programme since its inception in 2005 said, “this year was a fantastic success. We have really seen the hockey girls develop their skills over the past 4 years and this year we had a successful soccer academy which was run by Nigel McCann, Head Coach of Lurgan Institute Football Club. We are watching these children grow and develop into young adults with a great attitude of mind and hope for the future. It is our pleasure to support their personal development through the work of the Amy Biehl Foundation."
